After finishing "Vows", I can honestly say that I am now a bonafide Lavyrle Spencer fan. Before this book I wasn't too sure because I'd read 2 great books and 1 OK book, but this sure clinched it! I immensely loved the character of Emily, she was strong smart and I loved how she analysed things (her feelings for Charles, Tom etc).

LaVyrle Spencer was born in Minnesota, where she attended high school and met and married her high school sweetheart, Dan Spencer — a decision she calls the wisest choice of her life. Although she showed a flair for writing during high school, LaVyrle didn't begin her first novel until she was in her thirties, working as a teacher's aide at. Vows by Lavyrle Spencer. My wife ordered the book and has informed me that it was an OK book based on the fact that she does not read this type of novel very often. It was a selection for her book club. Any book by LaVyrle Spencer is always worthy of a read as she is/was one of the best, in my opinion. The Vows, though a good story, was not my favorite by Spencer. That is not to say that the story is bad because it certainly is not - it's just that the characters did not grab me emotionally as most of her others do.
